Comparison
Which ecommerce platform is right for your business?
The short answer: Adobe Commerce for large or complex B2B catalogs, Shopify Plus for fast-moving DTC brands, BigCommerce for API-first mid-market retail, and WooCommerce for content-led brands. The table below is the comparison we walk clients through before we recommend anything.
| Platform | Best for | Catalog scale | B2B depth | Hosting model | Typical build |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Commerce & Magento | Enterprise and complex B2B | 100k+ SKUs, multi-store | Native — company accounts, quotes, tiered pricing | Self-hosted or Adobe Cloud | 12–24 weeks |
| Shopify & Shopify Plus | High-growth DTC and light B2B | Up to ~50k SKUs comfortably | Good — B2B on Plus, wholesale channels | Fully hosted SaaS | 6–14 weeks |
| BigCommerce | API-first mid-market retail | High-volume retail catalogs | Strong — native B2B Edition | Hosted SaaS, open APIs | 8–16 weeks |
| WooCommerce & WordPress | Content-led and editorial commerce | Best under ~10k SKUs | Extension-dependent | Self-hosted WordPress | 6–12 weeks |
FAQ
Platform questions.
Which ecommerce platform is best for B2B?
Adobe Commerce is the strongest out-of-the-box B2B platform: company accounts, requisition lists, negotiable quotes and tiered pricing are native rather than bolted on. BigCommerce B2B Edition is a strong second when you want SaaS hosting instead of infrastructure to run. Shopify Plus handles lighter B2B well but needs custom work once quote-to-cart and complex pricing rules enter the picture.
What is the difference between Adobe Commerce and Magento?
Magento Open Source is the free, self-hosted edition. Adobe Commerce is the paid edition built on the same core, adding B2B modules, Page Builder, Live Search, product recommendations and Adobe Cloud hosting with a support SLA. The codebase is shared, so a migration between them is a licence and infrastructure change rather than a rebuild.
How much does an ecommerce build cost?
Audits and tightly defined scopes are fixed-price. Full builds run as sprint-based retainers against an agreed roadmap, so the number scales with catalog complexity, integration load and B2B requirements rather than being one large opaque figure quoted up front. We give you a real range after a 15-minute assessment.
Can you migrate our store from one platform to another?
Yes — replatforming is a large part of what we do, most often Magento to Shopify Plus or Adobe Commerce upgrades. We migrate catalog, customers, orders and SEO equity with a redirect map built before launch, so rankings and revenue carry across rather than resetting on go-live day.
Are you tied to one platform vendor?
No. We are certified across all four and paid the same whichever you choose, so the recommendation is genuinely platform-agnostic. We map catalog size, B2B rules, integration load and the team who has to run it day to day, then recommend the stack that fits — including telling you to stay where you are if replatforming will not fix the problem you described.
